Da amante di musica dance, tecno, house, trance e hip hop aspettavo un titolo musicale che venisse incontro ai miei gusti, e sapevo benissimo che sarebbe stata solo questione di tempo prima che ciò accadesse. Finalmente è disponibile nei negozi DJ Hero, rythm game di Activision che, sulla falsariga del più celebre Guitar Hero propone una nuova periferica, un piatto da DJ per mixare la musica e una lista di tracce audio davvero azzeccate.

Il titolo è sviluppato da Freestyle Games e a prescindere da ciò che vedremo muoversi su schermo, ovvero le classiche "note" colorate che, una volta gunte nella hitzone dovranno essere "suonate" premendo il tasto ad esse corrispondente, l'introduzione più accattivante è senza ombra di dubbio la bellissima periferica da DJ, disponibile anche in versione Renegade, con una sorta di valigetta che diventa un ottimo piano d'appoggio.

Questa periferica possiede tre tasti colorati (contro i cinque delle chitarre) rosso, verde e blu, posizionati sul piattone, uno switch per il cross fader e uno per l'Euforia, uno speciale effetto che corrisponde in linea di massima allo Star Power già visto in Guitar Hero. Analizzando la periferica diciamo fin da subito che l'impatto iniziale con la stessa è piuttosto buono, e la cura con cui essa è stata riprodotta riesce a rendere bene la sensazione di trovarsi dinanzi ad un piattone reale, tipico dei DJ. Senza esagerare, però, e rimanendo con i piedi per terra, da ex DJ (attualmente mi diletto con qualche piccola produzione) posso affermare che la perfierica di Activision/Freestyle Games rimane sempre e comunque nell'ambito del videogioco, e che magari un DJ provetto potrebbe addirittura trovarla ridicola. Ma giungere ad una conclusione del genere sarebbe come paragonare la chitarra/giocattolo di Guitar Hero ad una vera chitarra elettrica, per cui ogni commento in tal senso sarebbe inopportuno e fuori luogo. Stiamo parlando pur sempre di un videogioco, per cui sarebbe buona norma evitare futili paragoni e giudicare la periferica e il gioco per quello che sono.

DJ Hero offre la possibilità di divertirsi mixando le varie tracce a disposizione, per un totale di 93 canzoni, alcune delle quali disponibili in versione "premixata" a coppie. Sarà possibile così cimentarsi nella miscelazione di due brani contemporaneamente, e l'obiettivo del giocatore, in tal senso, sarà quello di alternare le due tracce nel modo opportuno, dando spazio prima all'una poi all'altra, come suggerito dalle note che scorrono su schermo.

In questo caso la libertà che il gioco lascia al giocatore è relativa, ma il risultato è spesso grandioso e appagante. Tenendo premuto ora il tasto verde, ora quello blu, sarà possibile non solo beccare la nota giusta al momento adeguato, ma anche scratchare sul piatto semplicemente mantenendo la pressione su uno dei due succitati tasti e agitando il piatto, anche poco (agitarlo di più darà vita a scratch diversi e più consistenti).

Il tasto rosso, collocato in posizione centrale, permette di suonare le note corrispondenti e di riprodurre dei suoni campionati (allarmi, sirene, beep, clacson, voci, versi e via dicendo), ovviamente solo nei momenti in cui sarà necessario, poiché sarebbe poco consigliabile far suonare un clacson, per esempio, durante un assolo di voce o durante una fase concitata di transizione, di fading o altro.

A differenza degli altri giochi musicali, in DJ Hero si deve prestare attenzione anche alle traiettorie lungo le quali scorrono le varie note colorate, poiché dovranno essere "suonate" anch'esse. Lo switch per il cross fader dovrà infatti essere utilizzato in corrispondenza di alcune deviazioni, ora a destra ora a sinistra, delle summenzionate traiettorie, spostandolo proprio nella stessa direzione di tali linee. Il movimento, in questo caso, risulta inficiato almeno in parte dalla scarsa precisione della levetta, che a nostro modo di vedere sarebbe potuta essere dotata di maggiore precisione, possibilmente sfruttando meglio le tacche alla sua base, che invece sono soltanto accennate.

Tra le "chicche" spicca la possibilità di collegare una chitarra di Guitar Hero e farsi accompagnare così da un amico mentre si mixa una traccia, ma questa modalità funziona solo con dieci delle tracce presenti, e tra le altre tipologie di gioco in multiplayer, troviamo anche una cooperativa, in cui è necessario suonare la stessa traccia accompagnati da un altro DJ (dotato di periferica) e versus, in cui però nessun giocatore può ostacolare l'altro, come accade invece nelle varie iterazioni di Guitar Hero.

DJ Hero è davvero fantastico e non ha bisogno di ulteriori delucidazioni, anche perché, aldilà del funzionamento del piatto e dei vari tasti, si tratta pur sempre di un rythm game come ne abbiamo già visti. La cosa bella è che adesso anche coloro i quali non si professavano patiti del rock, del pop rock o del metal, potranno avere la loro dose di rythm game, a base di hip hop e musica da discoteca.
